Wow...

I have finished The Joy Luck Club and haven't really started anything new yet. I enjoyed the rest of the book and researching to answer the questions.
Yesterday, I had to google some information on MRSA because a friend of mine is in the hospital with it. When I researching I just happened to also be thinking about school (I know, you can't imagine) and it made me realize just how many different types of literature there are. We are truly not appreciative of all the types. Everything we read is literature. It is amazing how much we don't realize there is so many types of literature.

The six Malignant Gates

In the Six Malignant Gates, I really disliked the way Waverly's mother was treating the situation. She was making her go in public with her just so she could get noticed with her and when Waverly got frustrated enough to say something her mother told her that they wouldn't have concern for her unless she had concern for them. If that is a Chinese tradition, it is one that I would strongly rebel against. Her mother was obviously not taking into consideration how Waverly felt, yet expected Waverly to just be okay with parading around. That is something that really rubbed me the wrong way in this chapter.

Red Candle and The moon Lady

I am having a really hard time following the changes in characters from chapter to chapter. I am having to read each chapter and then read a summary of that chapter in order to figure out who I read about. Is anyone else having this trouble?
I read the Red Candle and the Moon Lady today and learned quite a bit about the daily lives at this time. I see that it is very common for the woman to be treated unfairly and almost be disrespected. I am not sure that I would be able to act as the characters in this story do when they feel they are being treated unfairly. I am hoping that the story starts coming together for me soon so that I am not nearly as confused.

At this point I'm a little confused. When the books is talking about her mother being a ghost and says that she has no memories, it threw me off. I was not under the impression that her mother had ever been away from her. I am also wondering now, who is the man in the picture that Popo is calling her father? I am interested to keep reading.
I thought it was very interesting and accurate the way Amy Tan describes the healing of An-mei's burn and the way that the skin is peeled off and forgotten. This is so true in life. I hope to get a little caught up tomorrow and Sunday.
Favorite for the day: Pg 45 where An-mei describes the way she feels as crickets scratching to get out of a cage.

Oh btw...

I don't really know exactly what I'm supposed to be blogging about or how often! And I can't seem to figure out how to reply to someone else's either! For now, I'm blogging about what I'm reading I guess! Good Night!

Joy Luck

Hello Everyone! I am not as far along in Joy Luck Club as I would like to be at this point, but it is coming along. I figured I might as well start at the beginning with my blogging.
I think that the story of how the Joy Luck Club began is a very meaningful one. Jing-Mae taking her mother's place in the east corner is very symbolic. A lot of time when a family member dies someone else has to step up and take over their roles even though it may forever seem like there is something missing. The tradition that is started with the Joy Luck Club is one that should be looked upon with a great deal of respect.
One thing that I really appreciate in this story is how her auntie's are telling her that she must go and tell her sisters about her mother. There are not many of us who can understand what it would be like to have to share our mother with poeple that we have never met, especially when we are still mourning her loss.
The story has me captivated thus far!!
Favorite of the day: The way the name JOY LUCK got started in Chapter 1!
